General information Edit

Osteoarthritis (OA) is an age-related degenerative disease. It is characterized by progressive changes in the joint causing pain and disability.

Model requirements Edit

To study molecular and cellular processes involved in OA, the role of particular mutations in this, and potential drugs, in vitro 3D models were proven to be more suitable than 2D models. Especially, since the different joint tissues (in particular bone and cartilage) actively interact during OA development and ongoing disease, methods and technology for co-cultures are of interest.
